Use EuroBonus points for SkyTeam award flights
Find and book SkyTeam award flights with EuroBonus points, and learn how regions, cabin class and trip type determine the points price.
Contents
You can use EuroBonus points for award flights operated by SAS and eligible partner airlines. A SkyTeam partner must release an award seat to EuroBonus, and the booking follows SAS’s rules and points chart for partner awards.
Which SkyTeam award flights can you book with EuroBonus points?
EuroBonus points can be used with the airlines SAS currently lists as eligible partners. SAS’s partner award page links to the current partner overview and states that award seats are limited. A static airline list can therefore become outdated.
An ordinary ticket being available does not mean the flight can be booked with EuroBonus points. The partner must make an award seat available to SAS in the requested cabin.
What is the difference between SAS and partner awards?
A SAS award contains SAS-operated flights. A partner award contains at least one flight operated by an eligible partner and uses a separate points chart and booking flow.
| Question | SAS award | Partner award |
|---|---|---|
| Who operates the flight? | SAS | At least one eligible partner |
| How is the price published? | Per one-way trip | Round trip between regions |
| What does one way cost? | The price for that direction | 60% of the round-trip price |
| Where is it booked? | Regular SAS points search | SAS partner search |
SAS and partner flights may be combined in one partner booking. Check the operating airline for every segment rather than relying on the flight number alone.
How do you find and book a SkyTeam award?
Search Bonusinsider first to identify dates and cabins shown as available. Then recreate the itinerary in SAS’s partner search, where SAS confirms whether the entire trip can be booked and displays the current points price.
- Search for award flights using your departure airport, destination and cabin.
- Check both directions and note the date, flight number, cabin and operating airline.
- Sign in to SAS and open the partner award booking flow.
- Recreate the itinerary and verify every segment in the required cabin.
- Review the points price and conditions in the SAS booking summary.
Bonusinsider displays search data, not a guarantee that SAS can issue the ticket. Availability can change, and the SAS booking summary is the final check before booking.
How is the points price for a SkyTeam award calculated?
The points price is determined by the departure region, destination region and cabin. SAS publishes partner prices as round trips; a one-way partner award costs 60% of the relevant round-trip price. Check SAS’s current chart for cabins available on the region pair.
Air Europa, China Airlines and Vietnam Airlines are exceptions for which SAS states that double points apply. This rule belongs to those airlines, not to all partner awards.
Can you mix cabins, add a stopover or book an open jaw?
SAS allows different cabins for the outbound and return journeys, but not within one direction of a partner award. Business outbound and economy return is allowed; mixing economy and business on segments in the same direction is not covered by the published rule.
A stop longer than 24 hours is not permitted. You may return from a different airport than the one you arrived at, but SAS directs customers to customer service for that booking. An open jaw and different cabins on the outbound and return are separate choices.
How do feeder flights and Amex 2-for-1 work?
A feeder is a connecting flight from a Nordic departure point to a major hub. SAS states that such a connection may be added to a partner award for a separate fee per traveller and that the feeder fee is non-refundable. The feeder flight guide explains what to check before adding the connection.
SAS’s Amex 2-for-1 terms allow the voucher on SAS or SkyTeam awards. One valid voucher may be used per booking for no more than two travellers. An expired voucher is not returned after cancellation.
What should you do when no award is available?
Change one variable at a time. Try nearby dates, another departure airport and each available cabin separately. Split a round-trip search into two directions to identify which one is missing.
Check the connection segment by segment. If the long-haul seat exists from a hub, investigate whether a feeder can be included in the same booking. Separate tickets do not form one protected booking, so assess that option only after checking the SAS alternatives.
Partners do not share one published release date for new award seats. The guide to when EuroBonus award seats are released distinguishes SAS’s booking window from changing partner availability. You can also create an award alert for the route.
Frequently asked questions about EuroBonus and SkyTeam
Can EuroBonus points be used with every SkyTeam partner?
EuroBonus points can be used with airlines SAS currently lists as eligible partners when they have released award seats to EuroBonus. Check SAS’s current partner overview and booking flow; an ordinary seat for sale does not prove that an award seat exists.
What does a one-way SkyTeam award cost?
A one-way partner award costs 60% of SAS’s published round-trip price for the region pair and cabin. Air Europa, China Airlines and Vietnam Airlines require double points under SAS’s exception, so verify the operating airline before booking.
Can I mix economy and business one way?
No. SAS allows different cabins on the outbound and return journeys, but not within one direction of a partner award. You may book business outbound and economy return, while mixing economy and business segments in the same direction is not allowed.
Can Amex 2-for-1 be used on SkyTeam awards?
Yes. A valid Amex 2-for-1 voucher can be used for a SkyTeam award through SAS’s separate partner booking flow. SAS permits one voucher per booking and no more than two travellers, and displays the points discount after sign-in.
Why can I not find partner award seats?
The partner has not made a suitable award seat available to EuroBonus for the route, date or cabin searched. Try nearby dates, alternative airports and each direction separately, or create a Bonusinsider alert to continue monitoring the route.
